Protect yourself from personal injury this season

Protect Yourself from Injuries This Holiday Season

One of the best parts of the holiday season is being able to relax and enjoy every minute of it.  Unfortunately, it isn’t always as simple.  This
time of year is popular with thieves and others who want to do you harm.  Plus, with more folks on the road, in stores or at parties, you are going to want to make sure that you take a few extra steps to protect yourself from injury during the holiday season.

Here are some ways to make sure that you minimize its potential:

Be careful in crowds

When you are going to a party, at the mall, or generally out and about, just take extra time and be careful.  Crowds mean more injury or damage, so you’ll want to make sure that you don’t get jammed into something uncomfortable or anything that can cause injury. Crowds can be dangerous, so be smart and be sensible.

Drink responsibly

If you’re at a party or just out an about, drink responsibly.  You shouldn’t drive and a walk home might be just as dangerous if you’re unable to be aware of your surroundings.  Consider staying with a friend; call a friend to drive you or a reputable driving service.  The thing is to be smart and careful with alcohol.

Be careful on the road

When you are driving, be aware of the fact that the holiday season brings more drivers, which could mean more accidents.  You’ll want to make sure that you watch out for drivers running lights and be aware of fast (or reckless) drivers, especially in mall parking lots.

Be watchful for pedestrians

Pedestrians are also popular during the holiday season.  Whether it’s a parking lot, your neighborhood, or out and about in the city, be aware.  More foot traffic can lead to more injury if you aren’t careful.

Bring a buddy

To help you stay safe in crowds, on the road or out shopping, you might want to consider using the buddy system.  This is a good idea for many reasons, and it’s also fun to bring a trusted friend with you to share the event with – whatever it may be.

Injuries are popular and more likely during the holidays, so educate yourself on where they most occur and make sure that you do your part to protect yourself against them.  No one can avoid it all, all of the time, but planning ahead and being aware can help minimize the dangers for everyone.
